Research Activities

Research activities focus on the study of the interaction between metals (mainly copper and heme iron) with peptides of neuronal interest and involved in neurodegenerative diseases (amyloid-β peptide, α-synuclein, tau, prion peptides). The main goal is to study the binding of the metals in different oxidation states to these proteins and the reactivity of the relative complexes in oxidative reactions. A further line of research concerns the development of new porphyrinoid systems as bioinspired catalysts in oxygen activation and ROS regulation.

Expertise

kinetics; UV-Vis; NMR; Kinetic studies with particular interest in oxidative reactions promoted by metal complexes. Spectroscopic characterization (UV-Vis NMR CD) of metal-peptide complexes. HPLC-MS studies of oxidative modifications of peptidesCD; HPLC-MS
