Research Activities

In our laboratory we study new artificial metalloproteins based on the Spy construct. Spy is a redesign protein that consist of a peptidic (SpyTag) and protein (SpyCatcher) components. When incubated together, the two components react with formation of a covalent 1:1 adduct. We aim to introduce new metal binding sites on the Spy Tag component, and then reconstitute a protein construct by reaction with SpyTag.
Our interest is in the design of metal sites with artificial amino acid side chain, and to the introduction of photocemically active dyes on the SpyTag component. Ultimately, we aim at creating new artificial catalytic sites to carry out bioinspired transformations in water.
