Research Activities

My basic research interests include thermodynamics, structure and reactivity of complexes of transition metal ions with biological peptides, including peptide hormones and beta amyloid; interactions of transition metal ions with drugs; structure and activity of metalloproteins, with particular focus on metal ion tranport; intracellular metal ion metabolism and toxicity, zinc fingers, chaperones, sensors; molecular mechanisms of metal allergy, molecular toxicology of metals and metal-related carcinogenesis,
I am also interested in applied science in the areas of antimicrobial peptides and materials activated by metal ions.
My most recent projects focus on essential molecular mechanisms in extracellular and intracellular copper transport, and molecular mechanisms of silver toxicity.

Expertise
